Telekomunikacja Polska has announced that it is launching a broadband service which will cover rural homes in areas of Eastern Poland.
The company is working in conjunction with the Ministery of Regional Development and local government to build the high speed network in areas that have been described as being under ‘digital exclusion’, meaning that they have not yet been able to received broadband internet access.
TP estimates the number of households that are yet to be able to receive broadband as over one million.
Local governments will create a telecommunication network using government money and EU funds.
The Ministry of Regional Development has set aside two hundred and fifty five million Euros for the project, regional Polish government has allocated forty five million Euros for the project.
TP will then provide lines for users as well as the IT support needed for the project.
The scheme will start in, Podlaskie, Podkarpac , Warmińsko-Mazurskie Świętokrzyskie and Lubelskie then if successful TP hopes to expand to Pomorskie Voivodeship and Małopolskie Voivodeship.
